California Has 3rd Best U.S. Housing Market
As reported in the OC Register, 9/15/10
California had the nation’s third hottest housing market in July — although the national picture is turning bleak.

CoreLogic’s latest data shows Maine (sale prices up 4.5 percent, including distressed sales) leading July’s pack by appreciation followed by South Dakota (+4.3 percent) then the Golden State (+3.7 percent). Next was New York (+3 percent) and Virginia (+2.6 percent). Idaho was at the bottom, off 12.6 percent.
When distressed sales were excluded from this math, California ranked fifth best nationwide (at a 2.8 percent gain)!
Other nuggets from the report:
- U.S. home prices were flat in July vs. a year ago, first time in five months without a gain. (In June, this U.S. benchmark was rising at a 2.4 percent annual rate.)
- Prices were down in 36 states in July, twice May’s count and highest total since November.
- U.S. prices — including distressed transactions — are still off 27.7 percent from peak of April 2006.
